Some of these indicate a major problem that may require replacement, while others just need minor repair.
No Air at All
Did you turn on the AC and nothing comes out? If you have a window unit it is possible that the unit has no refrigerant in it. This is not uncommon. Before you buy a new air conditioner, check to see if you have any refrigerant in your unit. In order for an air conditioner to work, there has to be refrigerant in the line. If there is no refrigerant it could be that the condenser or line is blocked.
Cockpit Air Not Being Blown Out
If you have a ductless mini-split system, then it might not be able to blow air out of the vents in the ceiling. In most systems, the air that is blown out of the ceiling should be equal to the air in the room. If there is not quite enough air being blown out of the vent, then this could mean that there is not enough air to cool the room as it should be.
Unusual Smell
Every morning when you turn on your air conditioner you should smell fresh air smell. If you smell anything other than this, this could mean there is a problem with your air conditioner.
High Energy Bills
This could be a sign that your system is under-working. It could also mean that there is a problem with your system. A broken compressor may create too much heat and this could mean that your system must work harder to keep up. Alternatively, your system may be working too hard and you should turn it down a little. And this means increased energy bills.
